North Fork > Hamptons?

The Hamptons are not only very expensive, but VERY crowded. And after a long work week, does sitting in the car for 4-5 hours to get to Montauk sound ideal? Not really!

I recently started exploring the North Fork, and it’s incredibly charming. From Midtown to Greenport (across the bay from Shelter Island & Sag Harbor), it’s only a 2-hour drive. I was smart and drove out first thing Saturday morning instead of 5pm on a Friday because DUH! In the North Fork, you have restaurants, beaches, cute shops, and kind people. Sure, there’s no Chanel or The Row, but do we really need those fancy stores? That’s not the vibe in North Fork, and I appreciate the community trying to keep it that way.

In Greenport, we’ve stayed at the Sound View Greenport and the Harbor Front Inn. The Sound View was right on the Long Island Sound, so Frank really enjoyed fishing right outside our hotel room. The Harbor Front Inn was perfect if you want to stay in the middle of town and be walking distance to plenty of restaurants, bars, and shops. The Shelter Island ferry is also right there, so getting to Shelter Island and the Hamptons is a breeze!
